Im painting a semi smooth wall, I was told to use 3/4';What size nap should I use on my paint roller?
3/4'; will work but is probably more than you need. At this website http://www.wikihow.com/Use-a-Paint-Rolle鈥?/a> , here is what is recommended -
';Invest in a good roller cover (also known as a sleeve). It鈥檚 tempting to buy the cheapest cover available and throw it away when you鈥檙e done, but cheap roller covers don鈥檛 hold enough paint to do a good job. It鈥檒l take you twice as long to paint a room and the results won't be as good. Use a 1/2 inch (1.2 cm) nap for flat paint on walls and ceilings, 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) nap for rough surfaces like textured ceilings, and 1/4 inch (.63 cm) nap for satin or semi-gloss paint.';
So, for your application a 1/2'; nap is recommended.
Personally, I have painted many houses where the walls look like this - http://painttex.com/db4/00304/painttex.c鈥?/a> and have successfully used the cheapest 3/8'; covers like in this contractor 6-pack http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr鈥?/a> (but the paint roller needs to be fully loaded with paint). Being so cheap, I just toss the used cover at the end of the day and use a new cover the next day. The painted wall with 3/8'; nap looks great. If you only need to paint 1 room, then a more expensive 1/2'; nap roller cover may be a little faster. And, since 3/4'; holds even more paint, a 3/4'; roller cover will work fine as well.What size nap should I use on my paint roller?
if you don't like 3/4 try 6/8
It depends on how textured the surface you are trying to paint is. The nap is how long the hairs on the roller are. The more textured the surface, the higher nap you will need. If it is a light to medium texture (like orange peel or a light sand texture) 3/8'; is recommneded. If it is slightly more textured than that use 1/2'; nap. 3/4'; in nap should only be used on heavly textured surfaces such as popcorn ceilings or a rough fence.
