I bought a ragging tool (roller) to paint the glaze on my wall is it as effective as using a rag?

any pointers? How should I prepare the wall.I bought a ragging tool (roller) to paint the glaze on my wall is it as effective as using a rag?
It's not as effective as doing it by hand. Not to mention, you must put down drop cloths EVERYWHERE.....those rag rollers fling the paint back at you. Get safety glasses as well. It's more difficult to control the amount of paint on the roller. Why not try ragging the ';old fashioned'; way first. Do a test area behind a door or in an inconspicuous spot in the room.

If you feel comfortable with it, keep moving around the room. Turn the rag different ways and don't let it get over saturated with paint. Keep a few rags on hand just in case yours gets too wet. If you're ragging over a wall that's been painted a while, just wipe the wall down with a damp cloth to get the dust off. No prep other than that. Hand ragging is more time consuming, but you will be able to control your results much more easily. You may want to try ragging off for a more subltle look. It seems to goes faster. You can find instructions here.
