i can never get rid of all the paint, is it just a case of getting rid of as much as you can then letting it dry or am i missing something?Whats the best way to clean paint from a roller? any tips or tricks?
It just takes time. Go to a paint or hardware store and ask for a roller cleaning tool. It's a metal or plastic blade with a curve on one edge. You use it to scrape paint, etc. off the roller, and it really gets a lot out. After that, it's a process of wetting and rinsing the roller repeatedly. It can take 5 minutes to clean one this way, but if you get a good roller, and it does a good job, I think it's worth it.
One other thing - I had an uncle who was a professional painter. He had a roller spinner. He put the roller on one end of the spinner, and pumped a handle on the other end to make it spin fast inside a bucket. This threw off most of the water and paint on the roller. Unless you paint a lot, though, or you just like cool tools, you probably won't need one of these.Whats the best way to clean paint from a roller? any tips or tricks?
soap and hot water then rap it in a plastic bag then it wont dry out
If it water base paint all i can say it water and more water, If you do a lot of paint with costly roller cover then you can by a tool it will spin out rollers and paint brushes. any paint supply company will have its tool, works very well.
after doin lots of painting, what i did, take a old roller frame, cut the part that holds the pad, and insert into acordless drill, using a box as a shield from flyin paint...run under water insert into box and spin...works quite well
paint thinner. just pour the solution to the roller and your problem is solved in no time.
The besr method is to stand the roller on end under a running tap and use the back of a knife blade to scrape down the sides of the roller as you turn it slowly, and keep doing it until the water runs clear. You will be surprised how much paint comes off.
Use a Five in One tool. Take the round part of the tool and keep rolling it down the roller until most of the paint is out and then running water until the water runs clear. Be patient.
Scrape all down the roller with a dinner knife or similar while holding it over the paint tin, this squeezes the paint out of it and makes it easier to wash- then hold it under plenty of running water
if its matt paint just lots of running water and patience
use a blunt knife scarp excess paint off on to newspaper then rinse until clean with soap and water for water base oil base use white spirit than soap and water its a boring job but you have to do it.
heavy detergent
-painting book tip
A roller nap is about $3.50 each, for the time and water wasted to clean it's cheaper to just throw away.
Cleaning a roller always takes a long time, just keep running it under the tap and squeeze the fibres. You'll never be able to wash all the paint out.
