Paint Sprayer or Roller?

Hi,

I want to paint rough concrete basement interior walls. They already have a coat of white paint on them. It seems a roller would be really hard work, given the rough texture of the surface. Would a paint sprayer be easier to use? Would it be as effective?

Thanks for your helpPaint Sprayer or Roller?
A sprayer would definitely be quicker. The drawback is that depending on the type of sprayer, they can produce alot of mist in the air. This mist will cover everything in the area (floor, ceiling, etc) unless it's covered . Things could get messy real quick in a confined area such as a basement. You won't have that problem with a roller, but it will take longer to paint. Just make sure the roller has a high nap. This means the roller looks ';fluffy'; compared to a roller used for smooth surfaces. A high nap will cover rough surfaces alot easier than a smooth one will. In my opinion a sprayer %26amp; roller are equally effective. Unless it's a huge area that you're painting, I'd go with the roller. Hope this helps.Paint Sprayer or Roller?
Depending on how large of a surface you have to paint will decide which way is better. When you spray then you have to spend time covering and getting the right equipments for instance the right size tip for that particular paint, filters on gun handle, and the machine itself. Then you also have to consider the loss time of cleaning up afterwards and the spray machine itself. If your renting the equipment they will have you clean it really welll or else they will charge you the cleaning fee. My thought if your only painting like 1 wall or 1 room, I'd say roll that wall. If your wall is like brick wall then use like 11/2'; nap roller, and make the paint really soak into the roller before you apply it to the wall. This will make it little easier to roll. Use an extension pole at the end of the handle so that this will make it easier on yourself.
i would agree with barnacle Bill.

i would look into buying a Wagner roller unit that has a compressor to feed the paint to the roller. it holds a one gallon unit. i painted my basement using this type unit and of course you can also use it on regular walls in the house.

beings It's a basement you might also consider buying a waterproof type paint that contains sand. this system handled that type coating well. it's not cheap but it waterproofs the walls, which is always a good thing

still it's a lot of work. don't remember if i had to give it two coats or not. the system has a few attachments that come in handy

good luck to ya
Unless your basement is really large you are better off rolling it. Spraying is great IF you have a sprayer. The cheap sprayers are not worth fooling with and to rent a Graco you are looking at 100/day plus the price of a tip (25-30 dollars) AND unless you are good with a sprayes the walls should be back-rolled after spraying .

Just get a roller frome, extension handle and a 3/4 inch nap roller
