I applied my stain with the same very soft roller. The guy at Lowes told me I can use the same kind of roller to apply my Satin finish polyurathane. Is this true?Can sating polyurathane be applied to hardwood floors with a paint roller?
I did hardwood for two years and in construction for 22 year. A 10inch pad works much better.Can sating polyurathane be applied to hardwood floors with a paint roller?
';Can I?'; is a type of question I answer often. A respectful response is, ';Certainly,'; The issue is after the fact,,,';will you be satisfied?';
An even greater issue involves the finish you expect, HOPEFULLY not expecting ';Glass'; in a single, rolled on coat.
The enemy of the operator, and the substance, is ';agitation'; of the substance, prior to, and during any method of application. The more agitation, the greater the possibility of ';air bubbles'; coming to the surface. I think one can assume that ';rolling'; will contribute to that possibility, as can be seen when rolling latex on a surface. Obviously ';brushing'; can cause a similar effect.
Another issue is set/dry/cure time, and what the ';operator'; is willing to do, and what you want in a Glasslike final finish. That could mean steel wooling the entire surface and re-coating. Even ';POURED'; a clear coat might include air bubbles not strictly captured below the surface.
I often suggest this, and the time and waste factor is negligible. DO A TEST on some scrap piece of stock, judging the outcome. If I was to ROLL I'd probably use FOAM roller covers, and still assume some risk of bubbles.

noooooooo!!!!! use a felt pad rollers put bubbles in clear coats go to home depot next time
yes but you probably wont be happy with the results. I use a sponge mop stain is a lot more foregiving than poly and you will more than likely get air bubbles in the finish
I did that but don't do it! It whips air bubbles in it and will look really bad!
I used an applicator like a mop. Mop it on and it looks great! Don't use a mop like you buy at the grocery store. Go to Lowe's etc and get the applicator for oil-based stains and finishes.
Or you can spray it on if you have the time and equipment. More work but it would be a good finish.
Do not use a roller!
i wouldnt recommend a roller.do it the right way don't be lazy.
