I'm painting my house, but the sink isn't working for me. I can't use the hose..it's too cold outside.
How do I clean my rollers since it's so cold outside? How do you clean paint rollers in the winter?
I don't clean rollers, summer or winter. It takes too much water, I don't like sending that much paint into my septic field, and they never seem to be the same when you use them again after cleaning them. If I have more painting to do in the same colour, I wrap them very well in plastic or tinfoil and they are still good to go for a few days at least, often longer. Some people put them in the fridge or freezer which slows down drying. When the job is done, I toss them. How do you clean paint rollers in the winter?
Assuming it's a water based paint, fill a 5 gallon plastic bucket about half full of water. With the roller still on the handle, submerge the roller and oscillate it vigorously back and forth. You'll notice that the water immediately turns the color of the paint. After about 30 seconds of swishing the roller in the water, remove it and set it somewhere where it won't drip paint everywhere. Dump the bucket somewhere, rinse it out a bit, refill it to about half full and repeat.
Do this two or three times to remove most of the paint from the roller. You can store them in a ziplock bag to keep them moist and not get all hard.
sink is fine,#1 you need a 5 in 1 tool can be found at local paint store. use the curved part pushing downward and twisting the roller several times under water flip roller repeat till clean when finish water should run clean from roller.wrap roller in towl (rag) ,remove towl let dry fully or sherwin williams sells paint roller washers .sherwin williams.com
those things are cheap. throw them away and get some new ones. you will spend more in water and time to clean them than what new ones would cost, plus, you never get all the paint out and the edges harden.
I guess you talking about latex paint.
Get a bucket of warm water and let them soak in it.
Then clean them in bathtub or sink.
We sometimes stick them in a plastic bag if we are using again the next day.........otherwise get a bucket of warm water and go to work.
Don't bother they are so cheep today just buy some new ones which are use once and toss now isn't that easy?
get most of paint off the rollers in the tray then wrap roller in a plastic bag it be ok next day
